I was sent 2 products from Block Island Organics to help with this review. No other compensation was received.
Block Island Organics sent me a bottle of Natural Organic Mineral Sunscreen SPF 15 and a bottle of Sunburn Relief After Sun Gel. The two granddaughters that live with me go outside all summer. Riding bikes, swimming, walking, playing, and on and on. So I thought they are perfect to try a sunscreen on.
I want to let you know about the company Block Island Organics. This is posted on their site:
The Block Island Organics mission
Our mission is to give everyone access to safe, effective, and lovable non-toxic suncare products. We believe in living outside and enjoying the sun and not hiding from it. With a little sun knowledge and the right sunscreen you can live our mantra: “Play Smart, Play Safe.”
Despite advances in science and cosmetics, skin cancer rates continue to rise. We believe this is due in part to poor quality sunscreens, misleading marketing, and the failure to educate consumers on safe suncare practices. To rectify this, we pledge to be consistent, honest, and transparent in our marketing as we pursue our goals: educate consumers, optimize product safety, quality, and cost, and earn your trust.
They have a very informative section to teach people about UV Rays HERE. They also have a section about their ingredients HERE . You just need to click on any of the ingredients listed and it will show you a description of exactly what the product is and why they use it.
They have lots of great information on their site so take a minute and look around.
On to the products.
The youngest of the two put it on and made a mess. You can see how much she started with and what happened. It did absorb quickly so it was not a big issue.
It was a lot thicker than I thought. I am use to the store bought that is a lot thinner. Now the older granddaughter used a lot less as you can see from the pictures below. Once she was done it looked like she did not have anything on yet had cover all of the skin that was showing. I think it is good that it is that thick, #1 to save money by not buying sunscreen all the time and #2 you can easily control how much you need to put on. Say you bring your two-year-old to the lake, the baby will need lots more than you will.
Later that night I looked the girls over and there was no reaction of any kind. This type is made for sensitive skin and it worked well. We did not care for the smell, it was not a strong smell, you had to put your hands right up to your face to smell it. I would use and recommend this product. It seems to be a lot better than sunscreen I have used in the past! Being organic and only needing a little are big pluses.
On their site this is how they describe this sunscreen:
An organic lightweight, non-nano and instantly absorbing mineral based sunscreen safe for sensitive skin. Provides hours of all natural, highly effective broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection. As with all of our sunscreens, a small amount goes a long way. For best absorption, start with a small amount of product and add more as you need it.
Water Resistant 40 Minutes
The other product I received, Sunburn Relief, is described on their site:
Made with lidocaine, one of the safest proven sunburn relief ingredients on the market, this gel provides immediate relief from sunburn.
Natural ingredients including Aloe Vera, cucumber, and vitamin E rehydrate and combat free radical damage leaving the skin feeling moisturized and not sticky. With severe sunburns consult your doctor.
NON-COMEDOGENIC. VEGAN FORMULA. PARABEN FREE. PHTHALATE FREE. ARTIFICIAL FRAGRANCE FREE. NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS. MADE IN THE USA.
For temporary relief of pain and itching and minor sunburn, minor cuts and scrapes, insect bites or minor skin irritations. For adults and children two-years or older, apply externally to the affected area not more than 3-4 times daily.
This is nice to have on hand since you can use it for other things than sunburn! This product is a lot thinner. You can see the aloe in it. No one got burned so we really did not have much of a chance to use it. It says on the label that it nourishes and repairs, so I would think you could use this after a day in the sun. If you are lucky enough not to burn you still want your skin to look good, this would be a good product for that since it repairs and nourishes.
It says fragrance free, I do smell something possible aloe, but again not very much scent.
