Has Amazon Been Hacked?
I recently went into my Amazon account only to find out it has been closed! No warning! No emails! Just closed! Well now what? The more I find out the more I wonder ‘Has Amazon Been Hacked’?
Let me start by telling you what I know, then I will let you know about some things I have learned. I will let you decide but I will also give you some places to look for any answers out there.
First, I am a Prime member, an affiliate, and have their credit card. Not that any of this gives me extra influence but I wanted you to be aware. This also makes it harder than just setting up a new account.
I have placed orders probably 4 times in the last week from Amazon. I needed special cords for some medical equipment and had to try different options, that were not available close to me. Plus I ordered some other things for reviews on this blog. I ordered another item on Friday, no issues.
Saturday I received the correct cord from the manufacturer of the equipment so the last item I received on Friday I wanted to return. It was not open and I even had the box for returning to Amazon. Sunday I went into my account and could not log in. I even tried forgot password and it said that email does not exist. Tuesday I received an email about when I would receive my last order. How can my account not exist is they are still sending me products?
I could not get into help or anyplace else, because it wanted me to log in so I looked up a phone number from the internet. I called and was told it was closed due to a violation. Huh really what violation? I have a gift card balance and a small amount of commission coming since they pay 2 months in arrears. So the person on the phone said they would submit it for appeal and I would hear from them in 1 – 2 days.
Well as you can guess – no answer. I went on Facebook and noticed a conversation about other people’s account being closed. I truly thought it was just me and I possible did something wrong. Wrong, there are thousands of people affected and the numbers could go up. We will possible never know the true total.
So I start reading every comment on the post and almost everyone’s account was closed. They have a link to a Facebook group for getting answers that has all the email address and phone numbers everyone needs to get answers. This is where I started wondering ‘has Amazon been hacked’? Some people are reporting being able to log in on other devices but not from a laptop or regular computer.
From the groups I have learned about the other conversations and emails from Amazon people have received, from outright denials to lying to knowing there is a problem and it is being worked on. I have written to the CEO Jeff Bezo but have not heard back.
People are talking about credit cards being charged for things from Amazon (iTunes cards, products, etc) after their accounts were closed. Now I believe Amazon owes us an explanation ASAP. Anyone with an Amazon account needs to check their account and watch their credit cards if your account has been closed. You may want to cancel the old card and order a new card right away!
I have no way of finding out how many people are affected and if just in the United States, so everyone should watch their accounts and credit cards. Below is a list of contact information for your convenience. (This came from the first group mentioned above)
4/5 I heard back and the answer was that I reviewed something and was in violation. The problem with this is that I have not reviewed anything is almost a year so why now??? They are trying to blame the customer in a variety of ways and we have no way of proving otherwise because they do not give us examples. Now my case has been escalated, but I can log in on my phone and it looks like I can order so we will see.
Thank you for contacting Amazon Customer Service. We have reviewed your account and confirmed it was deactivated for violations of our Community Guidelines and Conditions of Use.
Your account has been deactivated for one or both of the following reasons:
— Your reviews were posted in exchange for compensation, such as gift cards to purchase the product, product refunds, review swaps, or free or discounted products; and/or
— Your account was used for commercial purposes.
(This is how we were told to do our reviews and disclose on the review we received it at a discount or free, at that time, recently they changed their rules but all my reviews were wiped out way before the rule change. Plus I was never paid for any reviews.)
We have submitted your account for re-consideration and will advise in the next 7 business days if your account is eligible for reactivation.
In the meantime, if you have made digital purchases (e.g. movies, audible.com, books) the content is now available to you.
4/6 Officially reinstated but still not sure what I did.
Thank you for your patience. We have restored access to your account, however, further violations of Amazon policies may result in account deactivation. To ensure your account remains in good standing, please review and adhere to our Community Guidelines and Conditions of Use.

As someone commented: others have had to take down blog posts on this topic, I’m just curious as to what justification they’re given when asked or instructed to remove the posts.??
