I have been wanting to exercise but just could not get myself away from this computer. Well guess what I got in my email, an email from Dr Siobhan France showing me examples of why no excuse will work for not being more physically active! She is right! I cannot argue she countered every excuse anyone can come up with.
Dr France is who created this program, so like I said she is right! JumpStart 180 is only 8 weeks of low impact exercises designed for men and women over 50 who are just beginning to start exercising. I am in pain and need to be more active because I know it will help with my pain, improve my balance, gain strength, and be more flexible, among a lot more.
The best thing about this program is you can modify it to fit your current activity level or any physical limitation you may have. Here is their website to purchase or purchase on Amazon here. I have also listed it in my favorites in the Amazon sidebar.
Dr France is a Doctor of Physical Therapy! What does it take to be a Doctor of Physical Therapy? I found this on Wikipedia HERE: The typical time frame for completion of a Doctor of Physical Therapy is 3 to 4 years after earning a bachelor’s degree. Depending on residency and fellowship training, if undertaken, the individual may have completed several years of additional training.
So I believe she knows what she is doing, at least way more than I do on my own.
You receive 4 DVDs with 7 different exercise routines that are 30 minutes each. They do also have an advanced routine if you are able to do it. They have a great video with questions and answers you might ask if you could. A workbook is included to help track your progress. There is also a calendar that tell you what routines to do each day.
Now they do not want you to hurt yourself, so only do what you are comfortable doing. You will get stronger each day and you can do more each day. Some things everyone cannot do, they tell you to only do what is within your limits.
Here are some of the doctor’s reasons why you should exercise:
1. Improve function and maintain independence.
2. Maintain balance to prevent falls.
3. Improve flexibility.
4. Improve cardiovascular strength.
5. Boost your mood.
She explains each one completely in the workbook that is included.
You do not need any special equipment to do these exercises. She suggests a pair of tennis shoes for support. You learn each routine and perform it 3-4 days per week for the 8-weeks. There is a heart rate table included in the workbook for you to figure out your target heart rate. Also in the workbook is a section for your personal goals, so you can look at them each day and remember why you are exercising. There is a progress tracker so you can see how you are improving each week for the first 4 weeks. In the back is the calendar of routines and when they should be done so you can schedule them for a convenient time.
She shows you how to do simple exercises and stretches that anyone can do. Then she shows you how to work up from these to gain even more strength. Her voice is calm, not someone yelling to do more like you see on tv. She asks how you are doing. You set your pace because you can always pause and go back or just say I am done for the day and do just a little more tomorrow.
I will continue to use these because I think it will help me a lot. I have an appointment with my pain specialist in March and cannot wait to show her this awesome program.
