Organic Ceremonial Grade Green Tea Matcha Review
To begin with I want you to learn a little about the company and how this product is produced.
This company has been organic farming for over 100 years. This is a family owned, Japanese, and certified organic tea farm. This farm is located in the top tea producing Shizuoka region of Japan and is recognized as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System by the United Nations.
They only use first harvest tea leaves. The tea contains up to 137 times the antioxidant of brewed green tea. They make the matcha, or fine powdered tea leaves, so you consume the entire leaf and a maximum concentration of Polyhenols and EGCG.
I found some information HERE about matcha tea:
Matcha is a fine-ground, powdered, high-quality green tea. Matcha is made from shade-grown tea leaves. The preparation of matcha starts several weeks before harvest and can last up to 20 days, when the tea bushes are covered to prevent direct sunlight. This slows down growth, stimulates an increase in chlorophyll levels, turns the leaves a darker shade of green, and causes the production of amino acids, in particular L-Theanine. Only the finest tea buds are hand-picked. The leaves are laid out flat to dry, they will crumble somewhat and become known as tencha. Tencha can then be de-veined, de-stemmed, and stone-ground to the fine, bright green, talc-like powder known as matcha. It can take up to one hour to grind 30 grams of matcha. The highest grades of matcha have more intense sweetness and deeper flavour than the standard or coarser grades of tea harvested later in the year.
There is evidence from clinical studies that suggests that theanine, when consumed by drinking Japanese green teas, may help to reduce or moderate mental stress responses. A study on rats reported the following: “We found that EGCG [found in Matcha Green Tea]…significantly reduced food intake and body weight…”. This highlights how matcha works to suppress the appetite through regulating hormones such as leptin which produces a feeling of “fullness”. Furthermore, a recent publication by the American Society of Clinical Nutrition found that frequent consumption of quality Matcha Green Tea enhances the efficiency of the human body in utilizing energy. The research showed that the daily energy expenditure rate of adults increases 35-45% with regular consumption of Matcha Green Tea.
I have been trying to add healthier options to my diet to see if it will make a difference in my health. I was glad that I was able to try Organic Matcha Green Tea Powder to complete this review they sent me a full size product.
The product could not have been sealed anymore than it was. This way I know it was the freshest possible. Below I mixed only 1 teaspoon into the cup.
I had not tried this tea before so I was not sure what to expect. It definitely has a unique taste. But I decided I would try it and I did. I truly believe this is something I could get use to drinking. It did seem to give me energy, that I always need, but not so much that I got jittery. It has an earthy taste as most sites describe it will. It was almost like what you would expect from green grass, but a little sweet. It did not have a bad after taste!
I am going to put it into future recipes to sneak in some extra goodness.
They do include the below recipe book to add to your healthy recipes. I will be cooking with this and afterwards I will update this page.
I received this item to write up my honest review only.
