The Yummy Mommy’s Budget Beauty Swaps
Sometimes, for busy moms, it is a good beauty day if they get the opportunity to scoop our hair up into a bun and slather on some mascara. However, just because we don’t always get the time we would like to spend on our appearance, it doesn’t mean that we don’t want to look out best. The sad thing is that it’s not just time that gets in the way of our beauty regimes, but cost as well, after all, makeup and other self-care products can be incredibly expensive. Fortunately, there are some savvy beauty budget swaps that you can make that will keep you looking and feeling yummy as a mommy, without breaking the bank.
Facial vs face masks
Celebs like Naomi Watts and Sienna Miller swear by a regular high end facial like the one offered by Dr Colbert for a mere $800 a session. Of course, back here on planet earth, we regular people don’t have the $800 to pay for one of these each week.
Fortunately, we don’t need to get such a facial to have glowing and healthy skin, as there are several much cheaper tactics to try. The first of these is to invest in a three-step cleansing process to do at home every night—one where you cleanse, tone and moisturize. You don’t have to pay a fortune for such products either as many drug stores offer their own-brand versions for less than $10.
Additionally, there are plenty of face masks and treatments that you can do in the comfort of your own home and cost significantly less than the $800 mentioned above. Look for the peel-off masks to unclog pores, and clay masks to help mattify and balance your skin.
Veneers vs clip on veneers
It seems if we are surrounded at all angles by celebs-moms and insta-famous folks with the whitest, straightest smiles, which can be incredibly intimidating for us mommies out there who aren’t so keen on the shape or the brightness of our teeth. With some folks taking to mastering a closed-lipped smile, so they don’t have to reveal less than perfect dental work.
Hop online, and you will see plenty of experts recommending dental veneers as the solution too, and of course, they are, if you have the money to pay for them. After all, each tooth can cost up to $900, a cost that can add up for your whole mouth! Then there is the discomfort that having veneers applied can cause – due to the filing down process of the teeth that are already there.
Happily, if you are someone that is looking for straighter, whiter teeth, yet want to avoid the cost and pain involved, there is another option to consider – clip-on veneers. These are veneers that are customized designed to fit over your existing teeth. They can also instantly be clipped in and out as necessary. Also, because they do not require any dental procedures or surgery to be fitted, the saving is then passed into the customer, allowing us moms to have bright, straight teeth at a fraction of the cost of regular veneers.
Expense makeup vs a budget option with the same active ingredients
Adverts in magazines and influencers on the internet would have you believe that to be beautiful; you must spend a small fortune of the very best makeup brands around. Chanel and Dior spring to mind as popular options. However, even something as simple as lipstick can run to $30 for Chanel and $40 for Dior, so it’s significantly out of my price range and the budget of most mommys I know.
The thing is that when it comes to high-end makeup a lot of the time, what you are paying for is the name and the elaborate packaging that it comes in. Now, I’m not saying that it isn’t a delight to use eyeshadows or foundations that come in sleek pallets and bottles, encased in fancy boxes embossed in gold boxes. It’s just that you don’t actually need all that stuff to get a similar result.
Instead, it is usually one or two specific active indigents that such products contain that are doing the heavy lifting. The great thing is that many beauty product manufacturers are beginning to realize this fact and use similar ingredients in much more budget brands.
For example, you can pay a whopping $64 for Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation because it’s a paraben and oil-free formula that is packed full of sun protection. However, CoverGirl’s option at $10 does the same for considerably less! Which begs the questions, why pay more to be beautiful if you don’t have to?
Full set of gel nails – DIY at home
For many moms, the nail salon provides a welcome rest, as well as an opportunity to polish their appearance. The bad news is that not only is getting a full set of nails, or regular fill-ins expensive, but there is no guarantee that you will be able to access your local salon right now because of COVID.
Instead, why not consider giving yourself a DIY manicure at home? You can complete a very simple manicure by trimming your nails, doing an oil treatment and then using a new shade of polish for excellent results.
You can even get full gel nail sculpting and nail art kits that can be done at home, including the UV light that is needed for them to set. All the latest shades and effects such as holo and watercolour are on offer too.
Of course, you may struggle to do both hands, but nothing is stopping you inviting a friend over, and you can do each other for a fraction of the cost of going to a salon.
In summary, you absolutely don’t have to spend a fortune to look your best as a mom. You can stay looking like a yummy mommy with a great deal less out of pocket. That just leaves you with the challenges of finding the time in your busy schedule!
