Mattel’s Turnspell – Fast Thinking and Learning At The Same Time
Turnspell is a race to create four-letter words. Building left to right and top to bottom, create four-letter words using the tiles you draw from the bag. The board with additional letters keeps rotating, so your luck may turn at any time. Work your mental dictionary and may the luckiest speller win! For 2-4 players, age 10 and up.
This is a spelling game which combines some of the elements of Scrabble with those of chess (in terms of needing to plan ahead). Since the idea is to make four-letter words, winning the game isn’t about the sophistication of your vocabulary, but about your ability to look at the board and consider what you can spell with each turn. Also, players who take advantage of making two words at once and doubling their score will win more readily than those who concentrate on single, high point value words. The game is much more about strategy than spelling.
- Game board rotates, so your letter reserves are always changing!
- No waiting for your turn—all players are racing to create words at the same time, so the energy is intense!
- Strategy involved—you can steal letter tiles from your opponents!
- Create as many four-letter words as you can
- For 2-4 players, age 10 and up.
There are 4 groups of 4 letters laid out on the central game piece. You pick one letter from the group right in front of you, and place it on your game board in a spot where you believe you can build a four letter word from it, looking ahead to what’s coming up on the central game board. Then, after everyone takes a letter, the empty spots are replenished and the piece spins. Now you have a different group of 4 in front of you. Pick another letter. Keep building. As you spell words, you score points. But you get more points if you spell more than one word at a time.
